Inauguration Bear

The Wall Street selloff today highlights the challenges facing President Barack Obama, who is inheriting a stock market that collapsed in 2008 among a financial crisis unseen since the 1930's.

The Dow fell 332.13 points or -4.01%  to stand at 7,949.09, its first close below the 8,000 mark since November 20. This marked the blue-chip average's worst performance for a U.S. inauguration since the Dow was created in 1896.

The NASDAQ also collapsed 88.47 or 5.78%.

The new president of the United States said in his inaugural address that "Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath." That's wrong. Forty-three Americans, including Obama, have taken the oath of office. One president, Grover Cleveland, served two terms, separated by Benjamin Harrison's. Cleveland is counted as both the 22nd and the 24th president.
